Volunteer Spotlight: Mrinalini

Meet Mrinalini. She is one of Mission Animal Hospital's remote volunteers. Coming out of the pandemic, it was clear that for some people, remote volunteering was simply the best way for them to be involved. Mrinalini has been volunteering in Mission's remote Gratitude Ambassador role since April. Every month, she calls a list of donors to thank them for contributing to our Mission Program. She gets to learn about their connection to Mission and why they feel it's important to donate to the hospital. Thank you for being apart of our team, Mrinalini!

Why do you volunteer with Mission Animal Hospital?

I volunteer remotely at Mission Animal Hospital because I have always wanted to be part of an organization dedicated to helping animals in need, and I was thrilled to have the opportunity to join them. The best part is that they assist animal lovers in caring for their pets at minimal costs. By volunteering here, I hope to make a positive impact on pet owners as well as other individuals who may not own pets but are willing to support the mission.

Tell us about volunteering remotely. What's it like?

Volunteering remotely is enjoyable because I have the opportunity to talk to different people while making gratitude calls. I love listening to their experiences and interactions at the hospital, as well as how their pets were cared for with so much love. It is incredibly fulfilling to hear their stories.

What's the benefit of being able to volunteer remotely?

Volunteering remotely has allowed me to make a difference while maintaining flexibility.

What do you do when you're not volunteering here?

As a homemaker, I manage my household while pursuing my studies in UX Design and nurturing my passion for art. My artistic journey began in 2020 with mandala art, and since then, I have explored various forms of art and crafts. I also enjoy traveling with my partner; together, we have visited 50 national parks across the United States. In our free time, we love watching movies and spending time with friends. Do you have any pets?

I don’t have any pets at the moment, but I would love to have one someday. As a child in India, I would often pick up stray puppies and bring them home to feed them. I would also save some food from my lunch box to feed the stray dogs I encountered while walking home from school. When I was little, I had a pet dog for a while, but unfortunately, the puppy didn’t survive due to health issues. Since then, I haven’t had a pet, but I hope to have one in the future.

Tell us about a pet that had a big impact on your life.

I think every animal or pet I have had an interaction with has had an impact on my life in one way or the other.

What's the most memorable moment in your time volunteering with Mission Animal Hospital?

During the time I make gratitude calls, I find all the experiences I hear about to be memorable. I learn how deeply people feel and how grateful they are that someone has a mission to help them take care of their pets.

Volunteering with the Maui Humane Society.

This picture holds a special place in my heart. It was taken in Maui, Hawaii, and features a sweet rescue pup named Marco from the Maui Humane Society. While visiting Maui, we volunteered for the Maui Humane Society's Dogs on Demand program. This program allows you to take a dog who needs some time away from the shelter on an outing. The shelter staff had already selected Marco to spend the day with us, and we took him on a short hike to a nearby area designed for outings. They provided us with everything we needed for Marco during the day. The experience was unforgettable for me, and after returning home, I started searching for similar programs in my area. Although I cannot foster or adopt due to my circumstances, I wanted to find a way to contribute and help animals in need. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find any local programs. However, during my search, I discovered Mission Animal Hospital and their remote volunteering opportunity.
