Volunteer Spotlight: Caroline

Meet Caroline! She is a full time student at the University of Minnesota studying biology, and somehow still finds time to volunteer at Mission. In the past six months, she has volunteered almost 100 hours. Caroline's hard work behind the scenes helps ensure that things run smoothly, and Mission can provide accessible veterinary care to as many pets as possible. We are so grateful for her dedication to Mission Animal Hospital. Learn more about Caroline, and why she generously gives her time to help pets in need!

Why do you volunteer with Mission Animal Hospital?

I love to volunteer at Mission because it makes me feel like I’m doing more for my community. I love to give back and it’s so fun to be around all types of animals. I also wanted to gain valuable experience in a different type of healthcare setting than what I’m used to. This has taught me to understand how important being compassionate and helping behind the scenes can be. The environment at Mission is also very welcoming and comforting.

What is your favorite volunteer task at Mission?

My favorite task is to fill flush syringes! While it is a tedious job it’s very fun and hands-on. I also like to sterilize instruments post-surgery as I’m able to learn more about the procedures.

What do you do when you're not volunteering here?

When I’m not volunteering I’m a full-time student majoring in biology at the University of Minnesota in dreams of going to dental school to become a dentist! I also love to read and spend time with family/friends. Staying active and going to the gym are also a big part of my life.

Do you have any pets?

I do not have any pets but I used to have a gecko named Echo:)

Tell us about a pet that had a big impact on your life.

I had two guinea pigs growing up that had a big impact on my life as I felt like they were growing up with me. We wanted to get two because we didn’t want them to feel alone. They were a source of comfort during stressful times and they taught me a lot about responsibility and the unconditional love that pets have for us.

What’s the most memorable moment in your time volunteering with us?

The most memorable moment during my time at Mission Animal Hospital was when I saw my two favorite breeds (Huskies & Bulldogs) on the same day! I stopped to talk to both and they were awesome.
