What started as an upset stomach quickly became a life-or-death emergency for a five-month-old Lab puppy named Doc. In the early hours of February 6th, his family woke to a heartbreaking scene—Doc was unable to move, crying out in distress. His best friend, a Blue Heeler named Pistol, wouldn’t leave his side. With no time to spare, his owner raced through a snowstorm to the emergency veterinarian, knowing every second mattered.

At that emergency hospital, X-rays revealed a devastating diagnosis: something was blocking Doc’s intestines, and he needed surgery. But like so many pet parents facing emergency care, his family was overwhelmed by the cost. That’s when they were directed to Mission Animal Hospital—the place where second chances happen.
When Doc arrived, our team acted swiftly. He was taken to a treatment room, where our medical staff evaluated his condition and assured his concerned owner that we would provide the best care possible. Shortly after, Doc was prepared for emergency surgery.
As his family anxiously waited for updates, our skilled veterinary team worked tirelessly to remove the plastic part that was lodged in his intestines, and save Doc’s life. Finally, after what felt like an eternity, the call came—Doc had made it through surgery and was on the road to recovery.
When his family returned to pick him up, our staff couldn’t help but gush about what a sweet boy he was (even if he wasn’t a fan of the dreaded cone of shame!). One of our veterinary technicians walked his family through the recovery process, offering support and reassurance every step of the way.
The next week was tough—Doc didn’t understand why he couldn’t play, run outside, or eat his regular food. But with the help of his loving family, some extra snuggles, and a whole lot of patience, he made it through. Now, just two weeks later, Doc is finally cone-free and slowly getting back to being the playful puppy he was meant to be.
At Mission Animal Hospital, we know that pets are family. That’s why we are committed to providing accessible, life-saving care—because no pet should suffer due to financial barriers. Doc’s story is a testament to the power of compassionate veterinary care, and we are honored to have been part of his journey.
To our dedicated veterinarians, incredible veterinary technicians and assistants, and client service representatives (who fielded countless phone calls with kindness and patience)—thank you. You don’t just save pets; you bring peace of mind to the people who love them.
And to Doc and his family—thank you for trusting us!
