Best known for its castles, palaces and the natural beauty of the surrounding mountains, it was once a summer retreat for Portuguese nobility and royalty, Today, this UNESCO World Heritage Site captivates visitors with its wealth of opulent palaces and historic sites, all set amidst lush forests and jagged hills. Explore the whimsical Palacio de Pena and all of its colorful buildings, winding paths and statues, or the mystical gardens of the Quinta da Regaleira, and the Arabian-inspired Palacio de Monserrate. If you venture beyond the well-trodden tourist routes, you'll find another side of Sintra, one with dense forests, rugged coastlines, secluded religious sites, and wondrous viewpoints.

The coastal paradise of Cascais is one of the most beautiful seaside towns in the world, set along the gorgeous coastline, surrounded by greenery and just 30 minutes west of Lisbon. Explore the two identities of Cascais, as both a fishing town and royal vacation resort. See for yourself the dramatic cliffs along the shore, and embrace the relaxed pace of life. You can shop, dine on lunch, drink tea, sunbathe and pick plants for your garden in a 19th century palace, Casa da Guia, or visit Boca do Inferno, the chasm that resulted from the repeated pounding of the waves.
